About Us
Who are we?
Terrazzo Artisans was founded by James Martin, longtime job supervisor for SafeDry Terrazzo Restoration. When the owner retired, James decided to start Terrazzo Artisans to keep the craft alive. He brings with him all the experience of professionally restoring well over 1000 floors.Â

How do we restore terrazzo?
Terrazzo Artisans uses 400 lb industrial floor grinders along with high quality dry use diamond tooling. Starting with very coarse diamonds we remove any sealer or finish along with the top surface of the terrazzo. Next, we use a 3 step process of using finer and finer diamond tooling to smooth the floor back out. Then we use a further 3 steps to polish the terrazzo. At this point the floor will have a high shine caused by being smooth on a microscopic level. This is mechanical polishing - no tricks, coatings, or chemical processes to fake the shine. Finally, a penetrating sealer is applied to protect the floor, and we make a final high speed polishing pass.
How do we repair damage?
Most terrazzo floors have at least some damage. Whether it be chip holes from carpet tack strips, trenches from plumbing work, or even gouges from tile removal, the process is the same. We choose real marble aggregate to match the original stones as closely as possible. Then we custom pigment an epoxy terrazzo resin to match the original portland cemet. Once the holes have been prepped to patch we add the epoxy and marble mix to the holes. This method means that the holes get filled with real terrazzo, rather than a painted filler material as some companies do. Not only does this mean better looking patchwork, but it also means that when the floors need repolished in the future the patches don't need to be redone or repainted.
