Rare mother-of-pearl terrazzo in a 1957 Zimmerman house
Terrazzo with this much mother of pearl in it is quite rare. This 1957 Zimmerman house in Sapphire Shores has it, hidden under carpet and paint.
Finished October 22, 2026
Terrazzo with this much mother of pearl in the aggregate is quite rare. Ralph and William Zimmerman designed this Sapphire Shores house in 1957, and the unique aggregate mix really sets it apart.
Most of the floor had been under carpet, and one room had been painted. We removed the tack strips, cut the nails and restored the terrazzo, including the part under the paint. It's a beautiful floor, and it's the showpiece of the house again.
The front of the house is a later addition with a plain concrete floor and no terrazzo, so we left that part of the painted room alone.
