Terrazzo Restoration

Carpet removal from terrazzo

Carpet removal from terrazzo is straightforward work that most owners can do themselves, and doing it yourself is a real way to keep the project smaller. We offer it for the people for whom hauling out old carpet and pad is a genuine obstacle, and because the tack strip should come up the right way.

The part worth paying attention to

Pulling carpet and pad is not delicate work. Removing tack strip is. The strips are nailed into the terrazzo, and prying them up carelessly chips the floor around each nail. Cutting the nails instead leaves the floor with very little to repair.

That is the difference between a perimeter that needs a few hundred fills and one that barely needs any. If you are doing the demo yourself, the one instruction that matters is not to rip the nails out.

What happens to the carpet and pad?

That depends on your needs. We can handle disposal for you, or in many municipalities, properly prepared, your carpet and pad is eligible for pickup. In any case we dispose of any tack strips we remove.

Doing it yourself

Carpet and pad removal is not too tough of a job, and many homeowners handle it themselves. As long as you leave the nails in place for us you can save some money on the demo by doing it yourself.

FAQ

Common questions

Should I pull the carpet myself?

If you can, yes. It is the least technical part of the job. Leave the tack strip in place for us, or have the nails cut rather than pulled if you are taking it out yourself.

Do you haul the old carpet away?

When we do the removal, yes, including the pad and the strip.

The carpet is glued down. Is that a problem?

No. Glue and pad residue come off during grinding. It does not change the approach.
