Terrazzo restoration in St. Petersburg is rarely a question of whether the floor is worth saving. Across most of the city, terrazzo was simply the floor that went into houses from the mid fifties through the mid seventies, so the real question is what has been done to it since.
What we find in St. Petersburg floors
Disston Heights, Meadowlawn, Lakewood Estates, Pinellas Point and Jungle Terrace are wall to wall with it. Snell Isle, Shore Acres, Pasadena: there's terrazzo everywhere here! Much of it has been languishing under carpet and tile for decades.
The two conditions we see most here are damage left along the perimeter where carpet tack strip was pulled rather than cut, and floor finish built up on the houses that were never carpeted at all. Both come off in the grind and neither ends a project.
St. Petersburg also has terrazzo in small commercial buildings, professional offices and churches along the older corridors, usually under decades of wax.
